Do you have a formal living room full of your child's toys? Of course, if you have young children you NEED a play space! It is an absolute necessity! But, when your children start to grow and don't play in there as often, you might think about turning it back into an entertaining space. Once the children are old enough to play outside or in other rooms in the house on their own, you can have your space dedicated for adults again.
I have an ongoing project with a friend who wanted to take back her formal living room from her kids. The American Girl dolls, the play horses, and the coordinating stables were ready to clip clop up the stairs and move to the child's bedroom. This family needed some adult space for entertaining, quiet talks, and having a glass of wine in peace. And this room that was once a child's play space would now become an N.K.Z. or No Kid Zone!

| Before: Toy chest with carpet remnant for playing on. See the beautiful hardwood floors and architectural details under all that?! |
| Before: Playroom sofa and valances from the previous owners. Rocking horse - enough said! |
| It is a large room that is connected to the dining room. |
| They had lovely dining room furniture in a warm cherry wood. Big beautiful window with previous owners valance. |
I call it an ongoing project because we still have some finishing art pieces to go in, but it has come such a long way from where we began. I am proud of how this room came together and it is gorgeous. Quiet sophistication and glamor. Just right for chatting about the day with your spouse or having friends gather in an intimate conversation.

| We darkened the wall color to a warmer coordinating brown and added a pair of settees (small armless love seats). Lots of lighting - no two lamps alike! An ottoman for feet or cocktails to rest on was placed on a beautiful area rug. We still need artwork above this settee, but in time it will come! |
| We used a lot of mirror, lighting and silver tones to brighten up the dark tobacco color on the walls. |
| This wine bar is perfect for entertaining and is a chance to show off all of your Waterford! And it closes to hide your stuff when you are not having people over! |
| I love the unexpected industrial table we added to balance the velvet of the sofas and the wood tones from the dining room and flooring. |
| Everything has a purpose. Candle sticks and accessories have reflective qualities and tray holds books, and wine! |
In the dining room, we added a large mirror and a wall of rich brown silk panels. Beautiful! Still managed to bring the horses in!!
More pictures to come as this room has a few more finishing touches in store! Stay tuned - but kids... STAY OUT! |
