I Can't Believe It's Not (a vintage) Butter (dish)

I absolutely love these - containers to keep your butter soft at room temperature.  The butter is put in the cup, then inverted into the container with just a little bit of water in the bottom.  Keep it on your counter for toast, bagels, or pancakes!

How about that cute dish towel with the New York skyline?!

Can you tell the difference between these two butter dishes?  Yes, one has a decorative blue rim, but aside from the paint...Well, one is brand new (a replica of a vintage piece) that came from the fantastic kitchen store in NYC called Fishs Eddy (I will blog about this awesome store shortly!) and the other one is actually old and came from a thrift shop here in Grand Rapids (World Mission on 4 Mile Rd where everything in the store is half off on the last Tuesday of the month).

The vintage piece is on the left - $1.99.  The new one is on the right $12.95 plus NYC sales tax - ugh!

So, I have another instance where this has occurred.  I paid the big bucks for a piece of pottery in Italy a few years ago.  I bought a piece of Rafellsco Deruta pottery in San Gimignano (a small hilltop town near Siena in Tuscany).  Then, when I got back to the states, I found a piece at TJ Maxx and another piece at a thrift shop.  It all has the same markings.  It's all from Italy.  Can you tell which ones are which?

The plate was purchased in Italy.  I picked up the coffee pot at a thrift shop and I found the creamer at TJ Maxx!
It just goes to show that you can get ideas one place and find the exact same things for less.  Amazing!
